Vice Commodore & Membership Director Mike Chrisman
I am a Cincinnati native who fell in love with sailing as a young kid during a few memorable summers in Maine. Growing up, my dad and I enjoyed sailing together on the family boat he kept at Brookville. My first boat was a wooden Optimist pram that I bought when I was 12. The experience made me a big fan of fiberglass keelboats. I got back into sailing as an adult about 2001 when I decided I missed being on the water and wanted a boat. Bill Ralston and I purchased a 24 ft O’Day, spent year on a buoy at Fairfield and ended up at Hanna Creek the following year. Never having sailed before, Bill has been a good sport and a fast learner. We currently sail the Catalina 250 WK Escape from Hanna Creek slip 68. I am a graduate of Miami and have an MBA from Xavier. Early in my career I worked in several areas related to IT, but ultimately found a home in the insurance industry. My other hobbies include kayaking, photography and hiking.

I grew up on the west side of Cincinnati and spent a lot of time helping my dad work his 300 acre farm near Sunman IN, raising corn, cattle and pigs. I had my own canoe and did numerous trips on the Whitewater River, including some overnights that ended in the Great Miami. During that time I watched Brookville Lake come about. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1969 and went to work for a Big Eight Accounting firm. I spent 2 years in the Army Artillery, as luck would have it, in Colorado Springs. I became a CPA in 1973. In 1974 I went to work for a client as controller. On Cathi and my first vacation together, in October 1984, she introduced me to sailing, and after having the tiller in my hand for 5 minutes I was addicted. We came home and Cathi bought a Hobie 16. In the next 2 years we sailed “The Banana Republic” in Lake Erie, The Atlantic off Hilton Head, and up and down both coasts of Florida and the Keys. We joined BLSA and made Brookville Lake our sailing home. In 1989, I gave up accounting to become a winter time, warm weather sailor. Having spent 11 winters on our Hunter 36, “Tiger Lily”, we took a 9 year break from sailing. In January 2008 we bought our MacGregor 26, rejoined BLSA, and have been totally enjoying everything about being back at Brookville Lake, Hanna Creek and BLSA.

While my husband Rick and I were on vacation to SW Florida in Oct. 1984, I was watching Hobie Cats and thought how cool to have the wind take you someplace.  As soon as we came home I bought a Hobie 16 and spent the next 2 years sailing it everywhere we could.  That was when we discovered Hanna Creek.  In 1987 we bought a MacGregor 26, kept it in the parking lot at Hanna Creek and joined BLSA.  In 1989 we moved up to a Hunter 36 and sailed away.  We spent the next 10 years sailing and cruising the warm tropics during the winter, summers here working on our rental properties.  After selling Tiger Lilly in 1999, we went sailboat less until January 2008.  We just missed the sailing so much so we bought another MacGregor 26 and came back to Brookville Lake.  The 2nd week at Hanna Creek parking lot we re-joined BLSA.  I really look forward to being on the Board.  Besides being landlord and Property Manager, I play the guitar and sing and I love to cook.  Rick and I enjoy traveling and hope to get back into kayaking.

Harbor Master Cory Chadwick
I was born in Graham, Washington and received my undergraduate degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Washington (Go Huskies) in Seattle.  My Masters, in Environmental Management, is from Golden Gate University in San Francisco.  I retired from the Air Force in 1989 after 21 years of service.  Before I was commissioned, I spent six years as an electronics radar repairman.  After commissioning, I worked as a weather officer, I.G. Inspector, and finally an environmental manager for the last four years of my military career.  I was first introduced to sailing in Colorado on Pueblo Reservoir (1978) which is just south of Colorado Springs, Colorado which is also where I met my wife Lin, who has most of the family sailing experience (she grew up with sailboats). Our first boat was a 23 foot Watkins we sailed on Tampa Bay, Florida (1980).  We purchased a new 27' U.S. Yacht in 1982.  Our current and last boat is a 31' Tartan.  Lin and I enjoy our three granddaughters, Ella and Morgan from our Son Bret and Kendall from our daughter Kym.  We also have a brand new puppy (West Highland Terrier). Other interests include: attending first run movies with Lin, reading fiction in the winter time, playing tennis, riding my motorcycle, and listening to music through a high end stereo system (audiophile).

Racing Director Ashli Slawter
So, how does a girl from Montana end up sailing on a lake in Indiana? The answer, she meets a boy, while in the Army, from Kentucky. That makes no sense. Here is the longer version of the story. I grew up sailing J24s on Flathead Lake in northwest Montana. At 18, I left Montana to attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. I attended CMU on an Army ROTC scholarship and studied architecture. In 1996, I received a degree in Architecture and was commissioned as an officer in the US Army. Shortly there after, I met John, my husband and we both served in the Army Corps of Engineers. We left the Army as Captains in 2000 and 2002. After having children, Jack (8) and Sydney (5), we decided to settle down in John’s hometown of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Shortly after arriving, we started to seek out a great place to sail. Lucky for us Brookville Lake and the association were close and welcoming. We have truly enjoyed our time on Brookville Lake and I am glad to participate in the association as the race director.

Bill Ralston Social Director
I was born and raised in Cincinnati.  My only experience with any boats growing up was the occasional trip across the Ohio River on the Anderson Ferry.  I never thought I would ever be a boat owner. Well here I am not only a boat owner but the Social Director of the BLSA.
Not only do I enjoy my time on the lake I enjoy cooking, traveling and photography and of course all of you BLSA members.

Bill Beglin, Communications Director:
Sailing has been my recreational passion since I learned at the age of 14 at Culver Military Academy's summer school. I received my engineering degree from Virginia Tech and started my career with Monsanto in Cincinnati. My first sailboat was a 16' Wayfarer. I began sailing on Brookville lake out of Egypt Hollow in 1976 on my Hobie 16. I met Bob Smith and Steve Tacy there and at the time there were 20 or so Hobie's sailing out of the 'Hollow'. Things changed in '82 when my daughter Lauren was born and we moved up to a Capri 25, got a dock at Hanna Creek in it's inaugural year and joined BLSA. With the addition of David two years later I traded up to a Catalina 27 until I sold it in '89 with a move to Chicago as VP Operations for NutraSweet. In '96 I moved to Indianapolis. For a few years I bummed rides and racing crewed for Steve Tacy and in spring of 2003 bought a Hunter 26.5, followed by the Beneteau 323 in 2005. I was on the BLSA board in the eighties and again in 2005 and 6.
